Manual Methods vs. TubeToMP4: What's the Difference?
If you've searched for a playlist downloader before, you've probably seen suggestions like yt-dlp, browser extensions, or screen recorders. Here's how they compare to a browser-based converter like TubeToMP4.
yt-dlp (command-line tool)
yt-dlp is the gold standard for power users — it can download a 200-video playlist with one command. The catch: you need to install Python, run command-line tools, and update yt-dlp manually every few weeks when YouTube changes its API. If you're comfortable in a terminal, it's excellent. If you're not, it's overkill.
Browser extensions
Chrome and Firefox extensions promise one-click playlist downloads, but Google has aggressively removed playlist downloaders from the Chrome Web Store since 2022. Most that remain require you to install from sketchy sources, ask for invasive permissions, and break every few months. Our online converter sidesteps these risks completely.
Screen recording

Troubleshooting Common Playlist Download Issues
"The playlist URL isn't recognized"
Make sure the URL contains list= followed by a string of letters and numbers. If you're copying from the YouTube mobile app, tap "Share" on the playlist and then "Copy link" — sometimes the mobile UI gives you a video URL instead of the playlist URL. The fix is to open the playlist on desktop or use the "Share playlist" option specifically.
Some videos in the playlist won't load
This usually means individual videos in the playlist are age-restricted, region-blocked, members-only, or have been deleted. The rest of the playlist will still work — only the affected videos are skipped. You can confirm by trying to play those specific videos directly on YouTube.
The download is much smaller than I expected
Check which quality you selected. A 360p MP4 of a one-hour video is typically 100-200 MB; a 1080p version of the same video can be 800 MB to 1.5 GB. If you wanted the highest quality, re-download with 1080p or 4K selected from the quality menu.
I'm being asked to install software
You shouldn't be. Our converter runs entirely in the browser — no installs, no extensions, no executables. If a download page is prompting you to install something, you're on a copycat site, not TubeToMP4. Always confirm the URL in your address bar says tubetomp4.it.com.
The conversion is slow or stuck
For long videos (over 1 hour) or 4K quality, conversions can take a few minutes. If a single video stays stuck for more than 5 minutes, refresh the page and try that video again — occasionally a conversion server hiccups and a retry fixes it instantly.

Can I bulk download an entire YouTube playlist?

Is there a limit on playlist size?
No technical limit. We've seen users download playlists with 200+ videos. For very large playlists (500+ videos), expect the process to take a couple of hours total — not because of our converter, but because YouTube rate-limits how fast any tool can request video data.
Can I download private or unlisted playlists?
Only public playlists work. Private and unlisted playlists are gated by YouTube's authentication system and can't be accessed by any third-party downloader without your YouTube login (which we never ask for). For unlisted playlists, the workaround is to share the individual video links with the downloader one by one.
Does this work for YouTube Music playlists?
Yes. YouTube Music playlists use the same underlying URL format, with the list= parameter. Paste the URL and choose MP3 format if you want audio-only files — ideal for music libraries that need to play in standalone music apps.
Will the playlist order be preserved?
Yes. Videos are presented in the order YouTube returns them, which is the same order they appear in the playlist on YouTube. If you want them numbered for your file system, you can rename them as 01-Title.mp4, 02-Title.mp4, etc. after download.
Can I download a Mix or Radio playlist?
YouTube Mixes (URLs starting with list=RD) are auto-generated by YouTube's algorithm and the contents change every time you visit. The downloader can capture the current snapshot, but the same Mix URL will show different videos tomorrow. For a stable result, save the individual song URLs instead.
What file format is best — MP4 or MP3?
MP4 if you want the full video (with picture). MP3 if you only need the audio — for music, podcasts, audiobooks, language lessons, or anything where you don't need to watch. MP3 files are typically 10x smaller than MP4 files of the same content.
Is downloading YouTube playlists legal?
YouTube's Terms of Service restrict downloading content unless YouTube explicitly allows it (via the Premium download button, for example) or unless the content is public domain, Creative Commons, or your own. Most users download videos for personal offline viewing, which falls into a legal gray area in many jurisdictions. Do you store the videos I download?
No. Conversion happens server-side temporarily during the download, and files are deleted immediately after delivery. We don't keep a copy, we don't store URLs you've submitted, and we don't track which playlists you've converted.
Why is my downloaded file larger than expected?
MP4 files with embedded high-bitrate audio plus 1080p/4K video are genuinely large. A 30-minute 1080p video easily reaches 500 MB. If file size is a concern, drop the quality to 720p (usually 1/3 the size) or use MP3 if you only need the audio.
